Abirwood Birmans

Our Boys

Grand Champion Double Mocha of Abirwood
“Mocha”

Chocolate Point

We anticipate that Mocha will be siring two more litters for us in the fall and winter of 2011. Then he will be retiring and made available to a new home as a pet. Thank you Dawn and Avi Cohen for sharing this lovely boy with us.

We refer to these boys as our “miracle twins”. They were born by c-section and we nearly lost their mom after surgery. The boys--the only two to survive surgery--had to be hand fed because their mom was in such critical condition. One of the boys was very near death twice in his first week of life. It truly was a miracle that they both survived. Since their mom had to be spayed at the time of the c-section, we knew that this breeding could never be repeated, nor could it be replicated since mom was a very outcrossed one-of-a-kind herself. Typically, we do not keep brothers for breeding purposes. But since these boys bring an exceptional outcross to our breeding program, we’re not putting all of our proverbial eggs in one basket. They will remain together in our breeding program, and then go to a forever pet home together.

Deep and heartfelt thanks to our fabulous Birman friends Jan Shelton and Dr. Cynthia Larson, DVM, in St. Louis who pulled these boys through their first few hours while I was recovering from surgery. Hugs and gratitude to my dear friend, Lin, and my sister-in-law, Mary, who helped me feed and nurse these boys back to life more than once. These boys truly are miracles.
